I'm looking in the mirror
And what do I see?
A boy that looks just like me
But this can't be me

He has a small smile on his lips
My lips forms a frown
His eyes sparkle
Mine are dull

His face is relaxed
Mine is full of anger
His hands are free
mine are tied

This boy in the mirror
Is my small mask
The boy I show
When I'm around

This isn't me
I'm not who you think
This boy in the mirror
He is the unknown
Before I couldn't understand that it was me in the mirror, cause the mask as I called it had taken over, so on the inside I felt angry, pissed and hatefull, but on the outside I had a small smile and looked pleased enought. Yeah this is an old one XD

I hate it, I wear my mask so much that it's become another ME. I become that person without meaning to, and it feels natural, but then when I'm alone, I realize that I've done it again, and I think back and can't stand the person I've become.

This is absolutely beautiful. A lot of people have masks while others try to control them. From another writes Point of view. The last stanza is my fav. Well done. You totally gave me an idea for my next piece. But I'm too lazy to write it right now lol.

Is he now? Is it really the person in the mirror that is the 'unknown'? Or is it much rather the person you'd like to be? Is it the image of your inner self, that has been yearning to come out?

And are the hatred and the anger not the chains that bind your hands?
Who is keeping you from being happy like the person in the mirror?

I know often it's not easy to be happy...for various reasons.
I also know, that people will start to worry, if we don't 'look happy'...and I am aware, that whenever they ask us, if something's wrong, I would answer: "I'm fine" or "Nah, it's nothing."

But why? Why lie? If they care enough to ask, are we REALLY that scared to just tell them that we're NOT fine? What it is, that's eating at us?

Is it really just a mask that stares at you from the mirror...or is it the boy you want to be?

So you don't want to be happy? You don't want the smile to be genuine? You don't want to be free of fear and anguish and just enjoy the days as they roll in?

Well, suits me, but at least I wish for that :P

Now I'm happy, but with happyness comes sadness, with sadness comes pain, so if i choose to be happy i will also choose to be sad, cause i can't be one and not the other, that's nature :)

You are referring to the medal-theorem...love and hate, light and darkness, good and evil...all of them are opposites...opposite sides of the same medals.

And you are right about that...whenever you choose to be happy, you also risk to be sad...when the medal turns around and circumstances force you to face the consequences.

However, at the same time, each time you're sad, you can always be sure, that there's happiness waiting for you...just on the other side of that very same medal.

And isn't 'being happy' worth the risk of 'being sad'?
For all sadness holds the chance for happiness...and vice versa :)

That's why I do not choose to be happy or sad, cause I know that my actions will determin if I'm happy or sad :) And also you can't choose, you can have a bright look on life, but you can't choose to be happy, its the choises you make that makes you happy, it's what you do that makes you happy, not the choise of happyness :)

Yes, most certainly it's our actions that make the difference between happiness and sadness.
But every situation...and I mean EVERY situation...is what you make of it.

When someone dies, you can either mourn that person's death...or celebrate the time you got to spend with that person. Just for example.

Ofc, but some needs to griev, cause that's their way to get over it, and some has to celebrate the times they have had, people take things differently so you can't make someone who is mourning to get happy, cause that's not their way to get over it :)

Trust me, I wear a mask too...................... and this poetry is amazing........ When I look in the mirror................... I see a girl, that small smile, like there's nothing wrong........... Yeah right.......... It's hurtful, watching on the inside while your mask you created takes over........................ :invisible:

Always a good question :) but I guess sometimes I believe being myself isn't enough...... Even if it is. Me is me, while my mask is someone else, someone I'd rather be, I guess. I honestly don't have a straight answer to your question :\

Mirrors seem to hold inspiration. My first and best poem was inspired by a mirror.

Masks...I don't even know what to say anymore... *sigh*

I find that a lot of people wear masks, which is what makes this such a great piece. It's something we can all relate with. This is a good poem, I'll admit that, but if you want to express more emotion, try inserting different words.

Also, just a suggestion for next time as well. Your poem said this: A boy that looks just like me But this can't be me. Next time you should rephrase it so nothing's rephrased in the sentence. So instead, I'd change it to: A boy that looks just me- This can't be. Something like that.

Overall, the flow is good and I like how you chose a topic so easily related with. Definitely something I'm going to favorite. :)

Rating for me? :star: :star: :star:

Sorry, I made an error myself. xD Instead of: Next time you should rephrase it so nothing's rephrased in the sentence. It should be: Next time you should rephrase it so nothing's restated in the sentence. Sorry about that. :)
